We will use a variety of practical scenarios to explore the financial-statement effects of cash flow hedges under GAAP. The half-day course will cover the following topics:

    • Using standard valuation methods to calculate the fair value of a forward and an option;
    • Incorporating fair value measurement guidance;
    • Understanding and developing a hypothetical derivative;
    • Calculating the measurement of the effective and ineffective components of a derivative;
    • Distinguishing between "triggering" and "release" events that control the reclassification of OCI;
    • Journal entry preparation for a number of case studies addressing different elections (including and excluding time value) and underlying events (timing differences, slippage of hedged event, etc.)

    This course is designed for accounting, reporting, finance or treasury personnel at any level who need a thorough understanding of how cash flow hedge accounting impacts the company's financial statements. Participants should also have previously attended the ASC 815 (FAS 133) Key Concepts course. This course is particularly useful for individuals preparing, reviewing or disclosing FAS133 entries. Participants will need to bring a calculator and be prepared to participate in the case study scenarios.
